Railing Styles

A fundamental decision concerning railing is how the handrail interacts with the posts. Glen Rock Stairs installs railings in three different construction styles, each giving a distinctive look to your stairway.

Over-the-Post

Over-the-Post

This elegant railing style provides an uninterrupted handrail flowing over all the balusters and newels. This style lets you keep in constant contact with the handrail as you ascend or descend the stairs.

Post-to-Post

Post-to-Post

With this railing style, the handrail starts and stops at each newel post.

Combination

Combination

Glen Rock Stairs has developed a newel post that uses the cambered style of a gooseneck rail system but eliminates the gooseneck and continuous rail, thereby decreasing labor and materials cost. In this style, the rail on the stairs proper starts on top of the post with a cambered rail fitting but ends at the next post at the block on the newel. On balconies and other level rail areas, the handrail flows over the tops of the newel posts uninterrupted.
